Is Travel Overrated?

In modern life it feels as thought traveling is a competition rather than for leisure and pleasure. People are competing to take pictures and say they have been to as many places as possible. It’s all collecting Instagram photos because #wanderlust is trendy and accessible.

We need to find out what is causing the boredom. Understand it and work to solve it so that people can enjoy the places they live.

Traveling has become a product, it’s a multi billion dollar industry and in some countries like Greece it provides like 20% of their GDP which is a lot. Of course social media and marketing plays a huge role in why traveling is so trendy.

I find no particular pleasure in planning, catching a plane/train/bus, finding hotels to stay.

I find no joy in try to speak and dealing in foreign languages.

The long flights are the worst part. If I could just teleport there that would be a whole different story. 20 hours. I was there all I could think about is “fuuuuuuck I don’t want to be in a plane for 20 hours again”.

If I have good company, even the smallest of destinations become enjoyable.

I like having some kind of purpose to my traveling, like learning something specific, going somewhere specific, or spending time with someone.

Sounds like the real problem is that you aren’t planning your travel based on what you enjoy. Not that you must enjoy traveling, but you at least have to want to do things you find appealing. So do things you like instead.

There’s all types of vacations. If you’re constantly tired, you’re either a killjoy or have narcolepsy.

At the same time, traveling opens your mind and allows you to surpass yourself. By the way, people often forget that the mind traveling can be just as enriching and beautiful too.

I guess traveling doesn’t always need to be a vacation. For me a vacation is sitting in my room with without having to do anything.

It’s not for everyone.

If I ever wonder about life elsewhere, I can read about it or watch a documentary! Because you can’t replace first hand experience with brwowsing the internet. There is much more to a place than you can see on a screen. But also, I didn’t care that much.

True as long as you’re a cyborg. Personally, I travel where(and when) no one goes. Unique, remote places. It’s scientifically proven that when you experience something completely new your brain it’s over clocking .

The real fun of traveling is really meeting people from around the world in a foreign land, doing local activities, seeing amazing sights (natural and man made) learning their way of life and opening mindsets. It’s crazy how wonderful this little blue rock in space is.

It’s literally one of the few things that I assign to “meaning” in my life. Seeing the world.

I appreciate where I live MORE because I see other things. Because you notice the differences and appreciate what makes it special. I spend 98% of my time there, and it’s better because of the 2% of my time I spend elsewhere.

I love, and enjoy, the place I live in.
I still travel.
