Why is it that some math textbooks use convoluted language when they could use simpler language and make it so much easier to learn?
Obviously because they want to display their professionalism. And in a discreet way it gives them more credibility and helps their books sell, no matter how much they want to deny. As long as it’s not overdone, that is.
It’s as they say, “follow the money”.
Why is “New Math” so confusing?
The Math Question: Can you make 10 from 8+5?
So what is the goal of the question?
Because it’s poorly taught, poorly explained, and often poorly applied in educational settings, often using books that are poorly edited.
It is unfortunate that some authors wish to sound smart rather than actually write smart. A simple concept/logic doesn’t need to be made extremely complicated like some authors make.
Study after study has shown that the most important thing to educate kids is parental involvement. And parents look at this shit, and they say “what the fuck is this bullshit”, and tune out of their kids education.
They want to teach more complicated methods in order to help students better understand math at its basest level and then hopefully be able to build off of that as they go on and eventually have more students who are better at math because they been taught to think mathematically from the start.
Most math teachers rarely have the mathematical maturity to understand the right algorithm for the right problem.
Indeed, some people like to use complicated language to sound more important.
This is of course how you ‘wish’ it was.
The subject matter is complex/high level. Even the best writer can’t explain something simply if it takes a large amount of background knowledge to explain adequately. The primary purpose of an academic article isn’t to be readable or interesting, but to set down a particular academic discussion in a permanent form, for use by others.
Mathematical papers are written with the expectation that the people who will read it are mathematicians, because that’s the point of them. The same way sheet music is only written for people who understand sheet music. The target audience is people who understand it.
The main reason people struggle with mathematics is interest.
Why is the language of mathematics so concise?
Well, it is that unambiguous proofs can be written.
Mathematics is the only Deductive language in the human existence. It is logical truth. It is not human opinions with no validity or proofs.
Every action of the Universe is a physical manifestation of mathematical equations.
What do you call the practice of using (overly) complex words specific to a subject?
Esoteric Jargon. Pedantic and sesquipedalian. Gobbledygook
Someone or something that overuses big words. If someone gives a sesquipedalian speech, people often assume it was smart, even if they don’t really know what it was about because they can’t understand the words. Each of those long words is referred to as a sesquipedalia.
